Marine Audio

It’s getting hot, big guys like me are sweating more and more. Utah State has finished for the spring and most college kids have gone home for the summer. We’re hearing and seeing more motorcycles driving up and down Main Street.  The leaves are back on the trees and the snow is finally starting to melt. Yep, its summertime!

With it being summertime our Mobile Audio technicians are working more and more on boats, but what marine audio products are perfect for your boat? Do you even need to buy a specific marine audio product? Why not just buy car audio products? Sometimes it can seem complicated and frustrating to have your boat modified. Here at Lynn’s we make it our goal that you can have the best sound on the water.
“Marine speakers, I don’t need speakers that are waterproof. I don’t plan on flooding my boat.” We hear this a lot at Lynn’s, it’s a lot more than that. While some marine products are waterproof most of them are really just splash proof. The big idea behind marine equipment is that each product was designed for being on the water. When you’re in your boat it’s far different from being in a car. There isn’t a roof over your head; you’re in an open cabin where it makes it hard to insulate the sound. Your boat is usually made from some form of fiberglass; sound waves are going to carry different in a boat over a car. Companies have spent millions of dollars trying to combat these issues, to make your boat’s audio sound just as crisp and clear as you would expect in your home.
JL Audio M series Marine Sub-Woofers
Sub-woofers are a great option for those people that want some bass for their songs. Our technicians can find a place where they can place a marine sub-woofer. Normally, when we install want we to use a ported box to get the most sound. Boat companies have spent a great amount of time making the hull strong and waterproof and insulated. It won’t carry the sound as well as other situations so we want to make sure that we can use a strong sub-woofer with lots of bass. Having a sub woofer helps the other speakers in the boat, sending the lower frequencies to the Sub and letting the other speakers handle the higher frequencies.
Speakers that come with your boat that were put in by the boat’s manufacture were designed to be easy to install and inexpensive. Now we’ve all been on the lake enjoying the beautiful weather and spending time with family and friends when all the sudden some other boat comes by, 80’s rock music playing so beautiful and clear it was like you were at the concert. Then your day doesn’t quite seem the same and you find yourself wanting to follow that boat so you can enjoy the same music. The truth is just like in your car; your set up can always be improved.  Marine speakers for your boat are going to be designed to take a beating but also give you good clean sound.  These speakers give you a perfect sound to fill your boat with all the music you want. Most marine speakers are loud enough to be heard over the sounds of the engine and the water.
Wet Sounds Rev 10s and 410s Tower Speakers
Most boats these days either come with a wakeboard tower or have had one added on. A tower will usually have some sort of tower speakers mounted to it. Tower speakers are not for your boat, they really are designed for the person that you’re towing behind the boat. Now brands that you have heard of for tower speakers such as Wet Sounds, Rockford Fosgate, JL Audio and others all have tower speakers that you can install on your towers. Tower speakers are designed to be loud, only high frequencies should be played through them.  These high frequencies will travel easier over the water and be better heard by the person that is being towed. These speakers have great durability, sprayed with a UV resistant coating they have been designed to be used out in the elements. Like with any speaker, the more speakers you have the louder it will be on the water.  They demand a lot of power so it’s always best to wire them to an amplifier.
Clarion Marine Control Pods
Marine CD players are going to have all the options, Bluetooth streaming, iPod and iPhone control, and Android compatibility. As with amplifiers Marine CD players are going to have circuitry that are protected from water and be designed to take rough surf and waves. Their UV resistant coating makes sure that they don’t fade or loose the icons on the screen. Most players by Clarion and Alpine have options to add optional control pods so other people in the boat can change the volume and song choice. Many people will choose to have them by the swim deck so people in the water can change the song as well.
There are many options for your boat. Whether you want loud enough sound to be heard from the beach or just cruising music, Lynn’s can help you with all of your needs. People will ask you how you got such great sound on the water. Come to Lynn’s to get your marine audio equipment, and then you will be the talk of the water this summer!
